If Atlanta’s MARTA stations were Game of Thrones characters, Midtown Station would be Jon Snow - the one true king. The Decatur station is also only a block away from the PATH Stone Mountain Trail, so if you’re looking for a hike rather than a pint (or maybe both!) this is the place. The station is in the center of Decatur’s downtown district and has a whopping 50 bars and restaurants within a 15-minute walk, making this the stop for weekend bar-hopping and feasting. If you haven’t taken MARTA to Decatur, you’re really missing out. If you haven’t been to downtown Decatur in a while, you’re missing out. Plus, the interior feels kinda like being inside of a mountain.

I may be biased because I catch the train here every morning and afternoon to get to our office at Switchyards Neighborhood Club, but you’d be hard-pressed to find yourself bored around this station. It may seem unfair to have two downtown stations on the list, but no ranking would be complete without Peachtree Center. The larger-than-life Falcons photos inside the station win this spot the award for best interior design (even though it makes walking in after a loss heartbreaking), and there are few things more exciting than riding the station’s escalator up to the Falcons drumline performing at the top.Įven if you’re not visiting on game day, there’s still plenty of downtown Atlanta within walking distance to explore.
